Carry-on suitcases are allowed by all flights, but they must be relatively small and easy to handle.  Of course, this poses a problem for people who are not used to packing “light.”  Instead of folding clothes, the same amount of supplies can be packed using a rolling method that greatly lessens the amount of space the clothing needs.  Thus, most people can pack for an entire vacation using only a carry-on bag.

First, travelers should roll the clothing that they normally fold, and then set it aside.  Shirts, jeans, and undergarments can all be rolled.  Larger shirts can be folded in half before rolling if the width of the bag is small.  Besides saving space, this reduces the appearance of wrinkles in the clothing as well.  As travelers decide what to bring and begin to roll the clothes, they should be sure to eliminate duplicate items that are unnecessary.

After rolling everything, the clothing should be packed from heaviest to lightest.  This helps bulkier items become thinner because they are weighed down by supplies on top.  Toiletries and other cosmetic items should be packed last because they will need to be removed for security checks at the airport.  Clearly, heavy items such as shoes should be packed first.  Undergarments are usually packed last, aside from cosmetics.
